ART Retreat
Secluded lush environment, creativity, finding the language to express inner authenticity.
In Bali there is a belief that every person can have taksu. It is a special energy mainly related to artists and their performance. You can see when a dancer has taksu. But there is something beyond that. Taxi drivers can have taksu too. The cooks, cleaners, waiters. It is a different way of functioning and dedication you radiate. The important element of this way of living is creativity.
In the seven day retreat, we will constantly create and find new ways of expressing the ideas. We will be using gamelan music and playing the gamelan, using the voices, bodies for movement, being active and also contemplative. We will practice different theatre and movement styles to create and explore languages of expressions. We will be using the senses to feel the new dimensions of physical reality and appearance. Also, we will be working on our own dramaturgies, giving to each participant tools to continue with personal or group work even after the retreat. The techniques we will be using are parts of methodologies of butoh dance, sensory theatre, image theatre, site- specific theatre and different exercises from the authentic practices of the facilitators.
The exceptional gamelan orchestra work is an unique experience of explorations of the sound, synergy through the sounds, and experiencing frequencies and tones rarely heard. Blending concepts inherent in gamelan music, as well as polyrhythms from South India and elements from contemporary classical music, will delve into creating original music by referring to these aspects and executing them as a collective.
This super immersive, experimental and collaborative retreat will give you enough space for your own exploration and at the same time experience the group creation that will be conceptualised as a site- specific theatre experience at the end of the retreat.
The structure of the day would be organised in 4 creative sessions a day, with free time for lunch, dinner, and with a non obligatory program for the night.
We will implement methodology we used in creating our artistic projects as collective, using immersion, site-specific theatre, sensory theatre, body scripts, butoh dance, body and skeleton work, experimental music and polyrhythms research.
